In-Depth Oral Examination and Evaluation

A visual inspection takes place during an oral examination to find out if there are abnormalities in the mouth, head, and neck’s overall structure. With the help of radiographs and thorough inspection, the medical professional can find out if there are abnormal findings not only within the mouth, head, and neck but as well as the other present conditions inside of them such as the following:

  • Problems within the existing dental restorations
  • Gum and bone recession
  • Cavities

Cleaning

Dental cleaning also known as oral prophylaxis is the extraction of dental plaque and tartar from the teeth. There are various instruments used that are specifically made for taking these deposits away from your mouth without damaging your teeth. An example is an ultrasonic device that vibrates and is water-cooled to soften the big chunks of tartar. There are also hand tools ready for disposal to take the tiny deposits away as well as smoothen the surfaces of each tooth. In the end, the dentist will polish the teeth for a sparkling white result.

Scaling and Root Planing

It is done for gum disease treatments. In this process, there are specialized tools that are utilized very well to take away the plaque and tartar that are hidden at the bottom of the gums. The tooth’s root is further smoothened with the process of planing and will result in a better gum attachment and most especially a smoother root surface.

Whitening

It is also called bleaching — it is the process of brightening the teeth’s surface. There are two types of bleaching done namely “In-Office Bleaching” and the “At-Home Bleaching”. The first one requires the patient to go to the clinic and it only takes one session to finish. There is a protective gel that is spread over the gums to secure the soft tissue before the carbamide peroxide is applied. Afterward, the laser light will do its job in enhancing the surface of the tooth and will act as a whitening agent.

On the other hand, the At-Home Bleaching will need a customized mouth guard to secure the whitening gel in place which has carbamide peroxide, against the teeth. After the mouth guard is crafted, it is equipped for a specific period and can take days or months to achieve the preferred results.

Crown

It is a dental restoration that fully accommodates the exterior of an extremely decayed tooth. This procedure usually finishes after two sessions. The first session is for the preparation and takingof the dental impressions. There will be a temporary crown that will be installed while the permanent crown is still being created. The last session, will be the fitting of the permanent crown and putting it into place for a permanent restoration.

Bridge

The replacement of missing teeth without the need for a denture or dental implant is possible with the use of a bridge. A false tooth is installed with the support of the neighboring tooth. To create a bridge, a crown is created for the teeth on either portion of the space and a false tooth is installed between the crowns, as a foundation.

Veneers

These are slim pieces of porcelain that are made for a more natural look and feel of our teeth. To install a veneer, a tiny amount of the original tooth enamel must be taken away. After that, the adhesive layer is installed between the tooth and the veneer. A curing light will be used to harden the veneer.

All on Four® Dental Implants

They are permanent teeth that are not to be taken out. The good thing is they can be cleaned just like natural teeth and do not require adhesives for them to remain intact. This is the main solution for people who have lost a lot of teeth or have lesser bone volume than normal. As the name suggests, it uses 4 implants per arch rather than 6 or 8 implants.

Root Canal Therapy

Saving the natural teeth is always the main goal. Whenever there is root canal therapy done, the tooth’s pulp chamber is taken out then a compatible filling material is poured into the chamber. This procedure is ideal for the ones whose decaying tooth has reached the nerves which can result in a massive infection.

Invisalign®

Straightening teeth the modern way is what Invisalign® is made for. It is composed of aligner trays that are crafted using smooth, comfy, and invisible plastic that is placed over the teeth. It makes a shifting action that will eventually fix the misalignment of your teeth. The good thing is there are no metal brackets and wires that need tightening. Every two weeks, there will be an updated set of aligners until the perfect alignment of your teeth is reached. People will not even notice that you have a dental device inside your mouth that you are wearing to align your teeth.

Sleep Apnea Appliance

Some people experience single or multiple pauses in breathing or even shallow breaths while sleeping. It is a chronic condition that affects sleep quality. This is one of the reasons for having abrupt transitions from deep sleep to light sleep which deprives the person of sleeping soundly.

There are various treatments for sleep apnea. One of the easiest and cheapest ways is to change your lifestyle for the better. Aside from that, medical professionals might require a sleep apnea patient to wear mouthpieces and breathing devices. If necessary, surgery is done as a long-term solution.

Palliative, Occlusal Guard/Deprogrammer

Habits can be harmful if they are already affecting the person’s quality of life. Some examples are finger habits, swallowing patterns, improper tongue position, etc. It is essential to have an appliance installed to lessen the implications that these habits can inflict as they can distort the teeth permanently. Once appliances are installed to the back molars they cannot be removed.

Dentures

It is a removable replacement for a particular tooth that is missing. You can encounter two of its types such as full and partial dentures.

Full dentures are built after all teeth inside the mouth are extracted and the gum tissues are fully healed. There will be an acrylic base to support the false teeth which are crafted in a labatory to make them look like natural gums.

On the other hand, partial dentures are built when only a few teeth have been removed. The denture is then attached to the crowns on a particular side or into a metal framework that is installed to the teeth. They are removable dentures and can be installed along with other dental implants.

Laser Dentistry

There is a high demand for lasers to be used in dental procedures. This is because they can be used without any noise, with minimal pain, and with fewer sessions. A laser can perform cutting, vaporizing, bonding, and many more functionalities that are essential in many dental procedures. All of the procedures done using lasers are less invasive and most sought for compared to the usual surgeries.

What are the benefits of lasers?

  • Less heat and vibrations
  • Can take away the need for anesthesia
  • Cuts treatment time into half or more
  • The retention rate is higher
  • Complications are less expected

What are the dental treatments done using lasers?

  • Gum tissue reshaping
  • Biopsy
  • Taking away soft tissue lesions as well as ulcers
  • Take away pockets of infected gum tissue
  • Tooth extraction
  • Oral surgery

Biomimetic Dentistry

The goal of retaining the natural biochemical and aesthetic form and function of the teeth through reconstruction is done using biomimetic dentistry. It focuses on only extracting the damaged tooth and then installing the final restoration to the healthy natural tooth structure that is left and this procedure includes the following:

  • Stress-reduced direct composite restorations
  • Porcelain/composite inlays and onlays

They are done to bring the biomechanics of the damaged teeth to their original condition. It is the latest approach to restoring the tooth to its original state in conservative approach.
